Lyrical Triptych Reflection
First thing our class did in order to proceed with the project, we sat down and our teacher explained the basics steps in order to create a Lyrical Triptych. Which is when you put a couple of pictures together telling the story of the song you chosed. My class and I were told to choose a song which had a personal meaning to you. After we picked the song we were told to choose Three parts or more, which we were going to use for the project. After I picked my song out I went on websites like gettyimages.com and gathered the right images which related to my song. After I had enough pictures for atleast Three 5” x 7” panels I decided it was time to putt it all together.
My triptych resembled a story between a couple which are facing the boiling point in their relationship. Through out my Three panels you see a lot of black, orange and yellow. Why? Well because in my song it talks a lot about fire and hate and I personally think that those colors suit best with the story and mood of my song. For the lyrics I added a drop shadow so that it would stand out from the background. Also in my Triptych there is a lot of images faded so that you would be able to see the background through the images pasted on top. The song picked by me is called I Love The Way You Lie By Eminem Ft. Rihanna. For this project I often used the Polygonal Lasso which is used to select the image you want, then copy and paste. The drop shadow made the text in my Triptych stand out more and the outer glow made the text more understandable. There was a lot of blending done in this project with the images. I then changed the variation of a couple of images to make it stand out more.
The mood in my Lyrical Triptych was mostly represented by the colors used and the faded images that blend in with the background. The biggest part of my Triptych would be my background because it shows the scene that I wanted for this project. I personally believe that the scene plays a very important part in showing the mood of the song and the story behind the lyrics. Most of my images already represented the mood that I was looking for so I didn’t really have to do much in order to show, what was needed to be shown.
My experience in working with Adobe Photoshop this year has actually been a very good experience. I have learned a lot of new things and I have created wonderful projects with the program, I like working with Adobe Photoshop because I love taking pictures and I’m into modeling. So to see how images are transformed and actually do it myself has been great. I think my Lyrical Triptych was a successful piece. I think I really showed what was needed to be shown. That was the mood and the storyline of the song. If I could do the assignment all over again I probably would have put more work into my second panel. I would have added more images and fix the background to make it stand out like my other two panels.
