For this project we were told to create a magazine cover. Our magazine cover was to include a picture of us and headlines, a title etc. of a reason why we became famous. Most students reflected their magazines based on what they’re interested in, or becoming in the future. In order to get started on the magazine we were told to take notes on how to actually create it. After a couple of days of notes we were asked to start the magazine on our own. The first step was to think about what we wanted our magazine to reflect and how we wanted it to be set out. Our second step was to take a picture and choose a pose which reflected on the style and topic of the magazine. The last step was to print out the magazine cover and hang it up on the wall when done.
My magazine cover was based on a popular cosmetics line called Cover girl. On my magazine I used a picture of my face since cover girls magazine usually reflect and focus on the face. On the magazine I added a picture of the newest Mascara yet of the cover girl line which is known as Lash Blast. To make the title and headlines of the magazine I faded my picture into the background and wrote the headlines in a solid orange. I also used the colors white and black to make certain phrases stand out. My final touch was adding a barcode on the down left side of my magazine to make it look more professional. My magazine didn’t really have a lot of things in it because Cover girl magazines usually focus on the picture as a background and a promotion of an item; which is what I did in this case.
Throughout my magazine my main focus was to let all the pretty young girls out there that being a model and making it to the front of a magazine aren’t all about being skinny or about being the best looking out there. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and I think my magazine says that. Even though my magazine was selling mascara my picture was taken without make up to show that natural beauty is the best kind of beauty there is.
I feel like I did pretty well in this project. I feel like I did a good job at getting my message out there, which was that beauty comes in all shape and sizes. Everyone’s beautiful in their own way. I believe that was shown with the picture on my magazine. Although, I do feel like I could improve on being more creative. For example: working on the headlines and the pose of the picture.

Lyrical Triptych

 Lyrical Triptych Reflection

First thing our class did in order to proceed with the project, we sat down and our teacher explained the basics steps in order to create a Lyrical Triptych.  Which is when you put a couple of pictures together telling the story of the song you chosed. My class and I were told to choose a song which had a personal meaning to you. After we picked the song we were told to choose Three parts or more, which we were going to use for the project. After I picked my song out I went on websites like gettyimages.com and gathered the right images which related to my song. After I had enough pictures for atleast Three 5” x 7” panels I decided it was time to putt it all together.
My triptych resembled a story between a couple which are facing the boiling point in their relationship. Through out my Three panels you see a lot of black, orange and yellow. Why? Well because in my song it talks a lot about fire and hate and I personally think that those colors suit best with the story and mood of my song. For the lyrics I added a drop shadow so that it would stand out from the background. Also in my Triptych there is a lot of images faded so that you would be able to see the background through the images pasted on top.  The song picked by me is called I Love The Way You Lie By Eminem Ft. Rihanna. For this project I often used the Polygonal Lasso which is used to select the image you want, then copy and paste. The drop shadow made the text in my Triptych stand out more and the outer glow made the text more understandable. There was a lot of blending done in this project with the images. I then changed the variation of a couple of images to make it stand out more.
The mood in my Lyrical Triptych was mostly represented by the colors used and the faded images that blend in with the background. The biggest part of my Triptych would be my background because it shows the scene that I wanted for this project. I personally believe that the scene plays a very important part in showing the mood of the song and the story behind the lyrics. Most of my images already represented the mood that I was looking for so I didn’t really have to do much in order to show, what was needed to be shown.
My experience in working with Adobe Photoshop this year has actually been a very good experience. I have learned a lot of new things and I have created wonderful projects with the program, I like working with Adobe Photoshop because I love taking pictures and I’m into modeling. So to see how images are transformed and actually do it myself has been great. I think my Lyrical Triptych was a successful piece. I think I really showed what was needed to be shown. That was the mood and the storyline of the song. If I could do the assignment all over again I probably would have put more work into my second panel. I would have added more images and fix the background to make it stand out like my other two panels.
